Anita Bare – Newmarket
Would you like to make a change in your life? Are you looking for some support to help you get where you want to go? Would you like to feel fit, strong and healthy? If you do then I’d love to train you.
Almost 5 years ago I left a safe and practical job as a primary school teacher to pursue my true passion- health and fitness. It was a bold move, but I’ve never looked back.
I offer 30 or 45 minute sessions designed to take you where you want to go. I’m also a running coach and I offer individual technique sessions designed to make you a better and more efficient runner. I have small group sessions and a run group available as well.
In 2014 my client won the True Grit Lifestyle Change Category.

Emma Goldstraw – Central City
Two years ago I embarked on my own health journey – I lost 13kg and haven’t looked back. Improving my physical health has improved my mental health, my work ethic, my relationships and my financial health. It’s all linked and once you start looking after yourself, you feel empowered to take on life and conquer any challenge that comes your way. My passion for personal training comes from a desire to help other people reach their full potential, to help people learn to quit the negative self talk and start believing in themselves.
I want to help you by encouraging, supporting and giving you the space to work out a system that works. There is only one you and together we can come up with an individualized plan.
You may want to improve your 5km run time, lose 5kg, compete in an ocean swim or put on muscle mass. With a plan, support from family and friends, a tweak of your diet and my professional support you can achieve your goals.
This is my first year being involved in the 20 Week Challenge and I’m looking forward to working with you. I am based at an intimate personal training studio, Imagine Fitness located on Mills Lane in Auckland CBD.

I’ve been a chef, a retail manager, worked in banking, quality management, marketing and production planning. But in 2007 I made some big changes! I got fit and in 2011 I bought The Circuit Room!
I weighed an embarrassing 124kgs when I came to my first circuit class. Ouch! Best piece of advice I received was until I was coming more often it would hurt. So I started adding in BodyPump and BodyBalance classes to my weekly exercise regime and gradually the weight started coming off. There began my love for group fitness classes.
I LOVE boxing and have now completed a Thump Boxing Instructors course and in 2013 I actually got in the ring! If you want one on one boxing for fitness training talk to me.
At 45 I have now completed my personal training qualification and will soon be a certified Les Mills BodyPump instructor.

Melinda Rhodes – Mobile & Albany
![]()
I am a working mum to three lovely children and know what it’s like to live a busy lifestyle. I know what it’s like to be overweight.
I lost around 20kg before becoming who I am today – a group fitness instructor, personal trainer and the winner of the local YMCA ‘Strongman’ competition! Now I teach boxing, boot-camps, take circuits, one to one personal training sessions and small group training sessions.
It’s never too late to start moving towards your goals and it’s never been easier. By having me come to your workplace or home or local park you’ll be able to fit in fitness in less time than ever before.
I look forward to sharing my knowledge, passion and own personal experience to help you achieve your own health and fitness goals and promise to give you motivation, support and encouragement along the way.

Nicola Lait – Central

I specialise in strength and conditioning and am a Precision Nutrition certified nutrition consultant.
I want to help you to become fitter, stronger and generally more awesome at life!
I will help you make changes that will fit in with your lifestyle and not only help you achieve your goals for the 20 Week Challenge, but that you can also sustain throughout the rest of your life.
Born and brought up in Scotland, I moved to New Zealand 5 years ago with my husband looking for a change in lifestyle and to find that elusive work-life balance. Health and fitness had never really been part of my life, so I would not have believed that a few years down the line I would have found a passion for it which would then become my career. I discovered that being strong feels great both physically and mentally and has an impact on so many areas of our lives.
This is my first year being involved in the 20 Week Challenge™ and I am excited to see what we can achieve together!

Sare Carpenter – Central City & Northshore
Though I’ve always been a member of some gym, health or country club I know how easy it is to get caught up in everyday life, be unhappy about my weight and just feel down right sluggish. With a partner in the forces, two kids of my own and having run my own businesses, I’ve had periods in my life where my weight has been some what higher than I would like
So I got myself organized, lost the weight (16kg) and kept it off too.
Working with me will not only help you feel better, improve your energy levels and reach your goals quicker, but with a personalized fitness plan tailored specifically to enhance your progress, it should also be fun! After all who wants to do boring exercises? Life is too short for boring so let’s get a proper, effective training plan, get fitter, live longer, have fun and enjoy life.
Sare can provide you with access to a lovely, new, well-kitted out gym in Northshore, she can come to you or you can train with her at Les Mills, Victoria Street.

Thelo Meleisea – Mount Eden, Mount Roskill & St Lukes
Thelo was introduced to Boxing in 2008 by NZ Olympic Coach Cam Todd. At that point he was 120kgs and living the classic corporate life of high stress, long hours and bad nutrition.
In the space of six months he dropped 25kgs and began a passionate love affair with boxing and functional training.
Last year Thelo made the bold decision to leave his job at Westpac and pursue working full-time in the fitness, health and wellness industry. So what better place to hang out than with Cam and Lex at the Wreck Room? His focus will be on reaching out to corporate office workers downtown CBD, in one to one programmes and developing group packages to fit businesses.
Thelo has been a production manager on the Auckland Arts Festival, Big Day Out as well as having produced events for Coca Cola, Vodafone, Westpac and the Auckland Blues. He is also a gifted jazz musician and has been told he has unequaled wit and humour.
*Please note, Thelo is not currently REPs registered and will need to be in 2017 in order to train entrants. Please discuss with Thelo before entering as we issue no refunds after April 1st.

I’m a self-employed PT going into my 5th year as a 20 week trainer at my home based business in St Martins, Oxygen8 Fitness. Prior to becoming a PT and pre-children, I gained my Bachelor of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse. I am passionate about being healthy and making exercise fun, achievable and an essential part of daily life.
As a busy mum of three kids and two step children I have reaped the benefits that come with being fit and healthy and understand what a struggle it can be to stay on track. Richard Greer (BPhed, BSc)
My wife Tarsh and I have 4 kids between 8 and 2 years old. During the last 8 years I have also been the programme manager, delivering the sport and fitness course at the Southern Institute of Technology – training the trainers essentially.
In 2010 I received an award for Outstanding Coaching in multi-sport and in 2014 I was super proud to receive the Educator of the Year at the NZ Fitness Awards.
I have been racing and adventuring for over 15 years now. I have raced in the Coast to Coast Longest Day field, won the teams event, had a crack at adventure racing and kept up in A grade road cycling.
A couple of years ago I had a crack at learning to swim properly and went on to completed the Motatapu Xterra. I am really proud of that achievement and enjoyed trying to master a new skill (although it was frustrating at times). I think as a coach it is important to keep challenging yourself.
I started my business, TEAM CP in 2007. I wanted to offer the same level of coaching service an elite athlete would expect to people aiming to complete an event for the first time.
I love helping people be the best that they can be and I find it really satisfying when it all just clicks. Whether it be a simple skill on the bike, having a great training session or executing the perfect race plan to finish with a smile and a fist pump.
“Never take no for an answer, and never give up if you really believe in what you are doing and you’re really keen, then you will succeed. It’s as simple as that.”

(NOT AVAILABLE IN 2016) Being a personal trainer is by far the most rewarding career I’ve had, helping a client set a goal and then seeing them reach that goal is amazing.
I myself was once overweight, unhealthy and unmotivated but that all changed when I began seeing a PT. Now I understand the importance and benefits of exercise and this is reflected in my drive to see my clients succeed.
I work with clients from young to old, in group sessions or one to one. I am a mother to two pre-schoolers and enjoy running and have just completed my first Ultra marathon.

Janet Cox
Janet has over 13 years of experience and knowledge in the health and fitness industry and as busy as she is she kindly agreed to jump on board and support our 2016 entrants in Dunedin.
‘I consider myself a real person, not your typical personal trainer or a born athlete. I have come from the same situation that a lot of my clients start from and therefore understand the journey to becoming fit for life.
Before I decided to make changes in my life, I was overweight, unfit and unhealthy. Once on my own journey and with help from my own personal trainer, I found I had increased energy, better health, lower blood pressure and cholesterol level that came with a more active lifestyle. This inspired me to help others who wanted to make a commitment to their own health and well-being.
I actively take part and compete in events such as the Kepler Challenge Mountain Run, Le Race 100km Road Cycle, the Contact Epic Mountain Biking event and many half marathons.’

I’m a mother of two busy boys, a personal trainer and SMASH-HITT small group instructor at Alpine Health and Fitness.
I grew up in a tiny Central Otago town, where there wasn’t much else to do but play sport! This passion for sport and exercise has been a huge part of my life through participation in several teams, coaching and management. I have competed in several mountain bike events and won both the Tour de Wakatipu and Lake Hayes duathlon.
After having my second child I noticed the amount of spare time I had to dedicate to my own training became less. In turn I struggled with keeping a healthy balance in my life, my weight often fluctuated and my energy levels were low.
This often frustrating experience lead me on a journey to reassess my lifestyle, so I joined the gym. This is when I realized just how much I loved being part of the fitness industry.
Becoming a personal trainer is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had.
I am incredibly passionate about inspiring people to achieve their goals, there really is nothing more satisfying than watching someone become stronger not only physically but mentally as well.
This is my first year as a 20 Week Challenge™ trainer and I can’t wait to support you into your new healthy lifestyle.

Always being the bigger girl growing up I feel like I have been on a massive health journey already in my life, from many health problems to just being plain fat. When I was 15 I joined the gym with my mum and boy did I love it! I always enjoyed getting hot and sweaty and smashing whatever was put in front of me. This is where my love for health and fitness came about and I knew I was going to be a personal trainer when I grew up.
I have my National Certificate in Fitness and my Certificate in Menofitness. In February I was lucky enough to be personal trainer of the month in the New Zealand fitness magazine.
Working at Configure Express I have learnt a lot about being a woman through all stages of life and have really enjoyed motivating, supporting and pushing ladies to places they would never dreamed possible.
I can’t wait to get to know you and help you along your health and fitness journey, and have fun while doing it!

I have always been passionate about health and exercise and have been actively involved in many sports throughout my life. At the age of 16 I joined a gym and decided to become a personal trainer to inspire others. From my experience I believe good health and wellbeing isn’t possible without attention to proper nutrition, good sleeping habits, stress management and a healthy environment. The challenge is finding the right balance. I enjoy guiding clients on this path and achieving goals we set together.

I was always very active but when my children came along that part of my life got neglected for a very long time.
In my 39th year I found the person looking back at me in the mirror was someone I no longer recognised and decided it was time to take action. I enlisted the help of a personal trainer and started my journey back.

My training is based around ‘Functional Training’ i.e. training that will help you function better in everyday life!
